Jim Perry, cofounder of 1 of the world’s largest PE firms, to speak at Chicago Regional

In 1984, Jim co-founded Madison Dearborn Partners, a Chicago-based private equity investment firm, while enrolled at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business and working towards his MBA.

To date, MDP has raised $28 billion and completed investments in more than 150 companies. Jim oversaw the firm’s investments in the telecommunications, media and technology services industries.

As a VC investor, Jim has had a profound impact on many successful companies.  In the early 2000s, Jim was ranked by Forbes magazine as a top 15 “Midas Touch” venture capitalist in the country. 

Today, Jim continues to harness his investing expertise to invest in up-and-coming companies, including innovative Catholic companies. Years of experience have made Jim an expert in what it takes to build a successful venture the Catholic way. Jim is a lead investor in Catholic tech companies Hallow, Exodus, Tilma, and Numinar. Jim was also a founding funder of Bishop Robert Barron’s Catholicism documentary series. 

Aside from Jim’s passion for Catholic entrepreneurship, Jim and his wife, Molly, are dedicated to making Catholic education accessible. Jim is a benefactor to the University of Notre Dame and serves on many educational boards, including Empower Illinois.

Jim also served as one of the first lay board members of Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and also serves on the boards of the Institute on Religion and Public Life, which publishes First Things magazine, and the Lumen Christi Institute, affiliated with the University of Chicago. 

Jim currently serves on the boards of directors of Asurion Corporation, the Wilson Sheehan Lab for Economic Opportunity at the University of Notre Dame, Word on Fire Ministries, and Seton Education Partners. In addition, he is a member of the Board of Advisors for Notre Dame’s College of Arts and Letters, is on the Board of Overseers of the University of Pennsylvania School of Arts and Sciences, and serves on the Finance Council of the Archdiocese of Chicago.
