The Epiphany Question
As we approach the feast of the Epiphany, consider this question: What gift is in your hands?
This Sunday, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord.
On this feast, the Magi brought three gifts to Christ: gold, frankincense and myrrh, which pay heed to Christ’s kingship, divinity, and humanity.
But this feast is also an opportunity to ask ourselves…
What gifts do we bring on Epiphany?
The First Reading this Sunday reads:
“Rise up in splendor, Jerusalem!
…See, darkness covers the earth,
And thick clouds cover the peoples;
But upon you the Lord shines,
And over you appears his glory.
Nations shall walk by your light,
And kings by your radiance.”
-Isaiah 60: 1-3
Kings walked by the light of the radiance of Jerusalem as it was filled with the presence of the Baby Jesus.
We can do the same in our daily lives.
When thinking about what gift should be in our hands, we must ask ourselves, what do I need to surrender? What do I need to entrust?
Join the Magi this Epiphany. Recognize the Baby Jesus as the Son of God, fully human and fully divine, and King of Kings. Entrust whatever is needed in the coming year to the Christ Child.
